Animals are often a toddler's first big interest. They have names, sounds, colours and homes, and every one of those is something to talk about. Toddler's Galaxy has four animal worlds, from the farm to the bottom of the sea to the time of the dinosaurs.
Four animal worlds
- Safari Adventure: 42 animals, from dogs, cats and cows to lions, giraffes and zebras.
- Birds: 22 birds, including ducks, owls, parrots, penguins, flamingos and peacocks.
- Underwater Kingdom: 21 sea creatures, such as dolphins, whales, octopuses, crabs, turtles and starfish.
- Dinosaurs: 16 cards with friendly dinosaurs (T-Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus) and things from their world, like eggs, nests, footprints, fossils and a volcano.
Every card has a clear picture, and tapping it reads the name and a short line about the animal aloud.
Games with animals
All four worlds have the same set of games: tap-and-learn cards, a quiz, Memory, Balloon Pop, Match & Drop, Catch and the Phonics Speller. They also have a Counting game, so children can count lions, ducks or dinosaurs instead of plain dots.
Several mini-games in Games World use animals too:
- Whose Shadow?: match an animal to its black outline.
- Odd One Out: spot the picture that doesn't belong with the others.
- Listen & Find: hear an animal's name and find its picture. Some animals play their own sound as a reward.
- First Sound Hunt: hear a sound, like "D says duh", and find the animal that starts with it.
- Where Is It?: a hide-and-seek game about words like behind and under.
- Sand Dig & Reveal: brush away sand to uncover a hidden picture, and guess it as early as you can.
Talking about animals together
Animal pictures are a great starting point for conversation, which is where a lot of early language comes from:
- Sounds first. Ask "What does a cow say?" before naming it. Toddlers often know the sound before the word.
- Where do they live? Sort animals into farm, jungle, sea and sky.
- Big and small. "Which is bigger, the mouse or the elephant?"
- Move like them. Waddle like a penguin, stomp like a dinosaur, slither like a snake.
- Visit real ones. A farm, a zoo, an aquarium or just the birds in a park make the pictures come alive.
